Assigning Business Units and Offices

To set up your firm's organizational structure, you should assign the offices and business units in your firm to regions and offices, respectively. Business units that are not assigned to an office will not be available as a selection in any setup window. They will also not appear in the Preview Structure window.

If you need to preview your firm's organizational structure, go to the Organizational Units area of the Firm window and click Preview Structure.

To view or edit your firm's organizational structure assignments, do the following:

  1. Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Settings and defaults under Firm.
  2. Click Organizational Units on the navigation panel.
  3. Click Assignments.
  4. ClosedAssign each business unit to an office.
    1. Select a business unit from the list. If you need to add a business unit, see Managing Business Unit Options for more information.
    2. Select the office the business unit will be assigned to or unassigned from.
    3. Click one of the Closedassign buttons.
    4. Note: As you assign or unassign business units, the Business units list will remain the same, since a business unit may be assigned to more than one office.

  5. ClosedAssign each office to a region. If your firm is not using regions, this option will be unavailable.
    1. Select an office from the list. If you need to add an office, see Managing Options When Setting Up Offices for more information.
    2. Select the region the office will be assigned to or unassigned from.
    3. Click one of the Closedassign buttons.
    4. Note: As you assign or unassign offices to regions, the offices list will add or remove offices based on the assignment, since an office can be assigned to only one region.

  6. Click OK.
